About Family Promise
Family Promise (Interfaith Hospitality Network) is a national nonprofit organization committed to helping homeless families with children achieve lasting independence.  There are over 140 successful Family Promise networks nationwide; Family Promise of the East San Fernando Valley serves the local Burbank, Glendale, Eagle Rock and North Hollywood areas and is the first Family Promise network to open in Southern California.  Family Promise mobilizes community groups and resources to provide safe shelter, food and compassionate support services to homeless families and aid in their transition to permanent and sustainable housing.

About the Program – How Family Promise works
Family Promise is a nationwide, interfaith network that serves homeless children and their families.  It works with up to 4 homeless families (a maximum of 14 people) at any one time to provide them with food and shelter as well as to help them find affordable housing and return to an independent lifestyle.  The families are housed and fed in local hosting congregations throughout the community.  The hosting facility rotates on a weekly basis.  During the day, the families are transported to a permanent Day Center site which acts as the daytime location for those persons in the family who are not working or going to school.  The Family Promise guests are transported to the Day Center as a group by van, arriving about 7:00 am and departing back to the hosting congregation about 5:00 pm.

The Day Center provides bath and shower facilities and laundry facilities for the families. It includes a Resource Center with telephones, computers and all necessary equipment to aid the guest families in finding jobs, housing and services.  This Resource Center will also be available for school age children to do their homework.

The Day Center will house the office of the Network Director.

The Network Director oversees the Day Center and oversees the provision of supportive services to the families being hosted by Family Promise.  The goal is to address the causes of each family’s homelessness and work with them to enable them to return to an independent living situation. Typically a family stays in the Family Promise network about 8-10 weeks.  When one family transitions out of the program another family is brought in.
