THE EVENT: Cardboard Box City 2009 ---- Camping
out for the homeless. This is a very visual event with plenty of activities and entertainment for all
ages. More than a hundred supporters and volunteers will give up part of their weekend and their warm
beds to spend a night out in the open to help local homeless families. Back in 2007, there were
1000 homeless children without shelter on an average night in the San Fernando Valley. These
children are part of homeless families. The bad economy and unforeseen financial hardships have pushed
the number of homeless families up 30 % from 2007-2008.
THE LOCATION: The participants will huddle in their own makeshift cardboard
box homes and tents in the parking lot of the First
Presbyterian Church on 521 East Olive Avenue in Burbank 91501. The camp out kicks off on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 4 p.m. and wrap up the next
morning, Sunday, September 27 at 7 a.m..
THE PURPOSE: In order to raise awareness of homeless and to support the work
of the Family Promise East San Fernando Valley, residents of Box City raise pledges and or contributions
of a $100 or more. The goal is $20,000 and we’re on our way!
